Fanner style sweetgrass basket handwoven by local artisan Mar-C.

Coiled baskets are crafted from one continuous strand of sweetgrass and bundles of bulrush sewn together in a spiral. Palmetto leaves are tightly wound around the coils of sweetgrass. Traditionally, grains of raw rice were placed in a large fanner and tossed into the air. After the wind blew away the chaff, the rice was ready for cooking.

Please note, approximate size is 5.5" W x 2" H. Sizes vary slightly as each basket is unique.
